Naperville Sportsman’s Club to Host Open House

On Sunday afternoon September 19th, the Naperville Sportsman’s Club will host an Open House with the general public invited. Open house events sponsored by the Club have become nearly annual events at the Park District trapshooting facility on West St. since it re-opened with full IEPA approval in early 2000. Sportsman’s Park Trap Range was developed nearly 55 years ago through the volunteer efforts of the Naperville Sportsman’s Club. The picturesque 27 acres was little more than a garbage dump in 1948.  Using earth moving equipment club members dredged the north and south ponds and the creek-size equalization channel, graded the property, and planted the trees you see on the site. Trapshooting takes place every Sunday afternoon and Thursday evening, and is open to the public in possession of valid Firearm Owner Identification Cards (FOID’S). Due to the abundant wetlands on site, steel shot has been required for the past 10 years.

For more information about the Naperville Sportsman’s Club, or if you’d like to become a member of the facility, visit or call (630-420-9816) the Clubhouse during regular hours, or review the information available at napervillesportsmansclub.org.

When not in use by the Sportsman’s Club, the Clubhouse is used for a variety of Park District programs and is available for rent by the public. In January of 2002 our group rented the facility for a “Winter Warm Up”, an enjoyable event with interactive exhibits and plenty of barbeque grilled outside on a brilliant snow-covered January day.
