Hobson West Ponds Park Opens

On Saturday, May 9th Naperville Park District members, and interested residents celebrated incorporating the 6 acres located between the ponds in Hobson West to complete a 15 acre park between West Street and Plainfield/Naperville Rd.
Ray McGury, Park District Executive Director, stated that no final plans for the complete park have been made. However, he did say that he was "pretty sure" that there won't be any structures built in the area, as outlined in Option 4 during a previous public comment meeting. He indicated that the staff would be developing some ideas for presentation during a future public comment meeting and then the Board would have the final say.
The Naperville Sun quoted WSGPC Coalition member Tom O'Hale. "Very seldom do you have citizens winning over developers, and basically a lot of citizens getting organized so effectively, that they can change the course of community history."
Our heartfelt thanks to all of the people who walked the neighborhoods multiple times distributing flyers and petitions and those who put up neighborhood signs reminding residents about upcoming meetings. Also our thanks to all the people who attended meetings, wrote letters to the editor, and the elected and appointed officials. Our thanks also to all of the people who attended the many, many, meetings of the planning Commission, the City Council, and the Park District.
As Tom said "If you have the will and commitment and make the time, then you can change the course of the city and have open space. It's not going to happen by itself."
Thanks again to all of you.
